The NSS Heritage Museum Presents

Septemberfest

It’s that time of the year again, and with the changing of the season comes the NSS Heritage Museum’s annual Septemberfest celebration! Join us for a fun filled afternoon of activities celebrating our Slovak culture and heritage. Visitors can shop vendors offering items for sale such as decorative pieces, jewelry, arts and crafts, Slovak themed snacks and food items, and much more. Admission is FREE and open to the public. Parking is FREE and available in the parking lot located below the home office, as well as across the street located next door in the Jordan Tax Services lot. We welcome all to join us and hope to see you there!

Folk Dancing & Music

Don’t miss out on Slovak modern and folk dancing and music performed by The Pittsburgh Slovakians and Pittsburgh Junior Slovakians, Pittsburgh’s oldest Slovak dance troupe.

Folk Arts & Crafts

Attendee’s are welcome to join in on the various arts & crafts presentation exhibits designed to teach unique skills such as cooking unique ethnic treats, authentic ethnic sewing techniques, and more!

Ethnic Foods & Pastries

Visitors are encouraged to sample the various Slovak foods available for sale, like Kielbasa, Pirohy, Halusky, Mancini Paska Breads, Homemade Sweet Treats and much more!

Ace Axe Throwing

12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Janošik, the Slovak Robin Hood. Would you have the skill to be one of his loyal followers? Participate in the Ace axe throwing exhibit and an expert will give you tips on how to safely throw an axe at a target. Score points and perhaps win a prize. (Must have closed-toe shoes and must be at least 16 yrs. of age with parent/guardian present to sign waiver to participate.)

Children’s Events and Activities

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Attendees with children are encouraged to visit the children’s area where such activities like balloon sculptures for young & old alike will be provided by “Giggles the Clown.” Crafts, games and prizes and more in the FREE children’s area!

NSS Heritage Museum

While attending Septemberfest, we welcome all to visit the on site NSS Heritage Museum’s and it’s new exhibit titled “Slovaks in America.” Learn about the journey Slovaks made to the United States over 100 years ago and how they became an important part of the American ethnic landscape. We look forward to seeing you!

Themed Raffle Baskets

Visitors exploring the various events and activities of Septemberfest are encouraged to enter for a chance to win one of the many themed raffle baskets donated to the event by various members and assemblies of NSS Life. All proceeds of raffle basket sales go towards the NSS PVR Scholarship fund.
