Greetings from our Home Office in McMurray, Pennsylvania. The month of March is a month of transition in regard to weather. With winter winding down, and spring on the horizon, the weather in the Pittsburgh area in March is really unpredictable. People often say that in Pittsburgh, you can witness all four seasons in a single day! That is never more evident than in the month of March often with a great fluctuation in temperatures and types of precipitation. The good news is that it only lasts a month.

In the month of March, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th and the first day of Spring on March 20th. Remember that Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 14th. Don’t forget to move your clocks forward one-hour. Also, since Easter falls on the first weekend of April this year, I would like to wish everyone a Blessed and Happy Easter from my family, the Officers and Board of Directors, and the NSS Home Office Staff.

The Board of Directors will meet virtually on Saturday, March 6, 2021 for the Winter Board Meeting. The Board last met in person at the Winter Meeting in March of 2020. Thanks to technology and remote meeting software, the Board of Directors and our advisors have been able to meet virtually and keep the Society moving in a positive direction throughout the pandemic.

Assembly 39 of Uniontown is holding a Lenten dinner on Sunday, March 14th. Due to the pandemic, the restrictions that have been imposed by state and local governments regarding gathering, and the limited capacity at restaurants have hampered the efforts of NSS Assemblies and Regions to hold physical meetings and activities over the past year. However, it is great to see local assemblies holding meetings virtually using technology or by telephone to conduct business. Assemblies and regions have also continued to support organizations within their communities assisting those in need through donations. Keep up the great work! Our help is needed more than ever!

A reminder to all assembly officers and members that nominations for the NSS Fraternalist of the Year close on April 1st. Please take the time to recognize a member who goes the extra mile in volunteering and doing good deeds in your community by nominating them for the NSS Fraternalist of the Year. A nomination form is included in this issue of the National News and is also available on the NSS website.

The NSS Youth Achievement Award nominations are also due by April 1st. Once again, assembly officers and members may nominate any NSS member 18 or younger for this award. It is based on youth members who do outstanding work at their school, in their community, in their church and in their local assembly. Take the time to recognize a youth member of your assembly deserving of the award. The winner will receive $500. Remember they are the future leaders of your assembly and the NSS! This form is also included in this issue of the National News and is on the NSS website.
