NSS Fraternal Programs

National Slovak Society matches up to $500.00, the funds raised by a local assembly or region, for the benefit of an approved charity, or non-profit organization in need of financial support.

This program has helped many young NSS members earn their college, business, technical, or graduate school degrees. It is another way the Society demonstrates its support for education. First year scholarship awardees are presented in the “Youth Circle” magazine and annual “Year In Review.”

The NSS Board of Directors has established a 501(c)(3) corporation for the purpose of soliciting major gifts in support of the above NSS Scholarship Fund. The PVR Fund accepts gifts of cash, annuities, life insurance policies, securities, etc. All gifts are tax deductible.

“The official registration and financial information of the PVR Fund may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling toll-free, within Pennsylvania, 1-800-732-0999. Registration does not imply endorsement.”

Each year, two national sporting events are conducted for our membership. In late Spring, we conduct a Bowling Tournament, and in Mid-July, a Golf Tournament. The tournaments are conducted over a three day weekend and offer festivities for all ages. When these tournaments are held in an area of a local assembly, we offer the assembly the opportunity to host the Friday Hospitality Night. We encourage our members to invite non-member friends and family to join in these fraternal sporting events as guests. Continued participation after this one-time opportunity would require one to become a member of our fraternal family.

This program is for our members who are over fifty-five (55) years old and interested in continuing their education and making fuller use of their leisure time. Vocational schools, community colleges, and universities offer a variety of short term courses which may include areas like computer literacy, cake decorating, photography, landscaping, woodworking, small engine repair, ballroom dancing, sports, etc.

Open to all members, of any age. This annual event has grown in popularity since its inception. Members can enter photos in one of four categories and prizes are given to the top three entries in each category. All winners are listed on this website.

This unique contest is open to members of all ages. All entries, after judging, are sent to a local nursing home to be displayed on a Christmas tree. Winning entries are listed elsewhere on this website.

Each year, we sponsor the May Art Contest for our young people, ages five (5) to sixteen (16). Winners have their artwork placed in the monthly “National News” magazine. Also, their artwork is featured in the “Youth Circle” Magazine. Winners are listed on this website. Cash prizes, NSS Life jackets and scholarships are awarded.

Each month a copy of the “National News” magazine is mailed to each family of the National Slovak Society. This magazine is geared to keep members informed of upcoming events, reports of past events and news about achievements of our members, young and old alike.

In addition to our monthly newsletter, we publish a “Youth Circle” Magazine quarterly for our younger members.

The “Year In Review” highlights the annual activities sponsored on the national, region and assembly levels. It is published annually at the end of each year.
