Alan T. Burns Phd JD
Alan Burns has been a member of the National Slovak Society for almost 50 years. He has worked for over 30 years in the corporate world and higher education. His corporate career includes technical and leadership positions in R&D, Engineering and Manufacturing at various supplier organizations to the automotive and heavy duty construction equipment industries.
Currently, Al is an education consultant in Las Vegas working on innovations in Social Emotional Learning and Corporate Training. He previously had served as Dean of Business, Leadership and Psychology at Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. His higher education career includes over 10 years as a professor and advisor to students. He has taught and developed over 25 courses in business, leadership, technology and law. His areas of expertise and interests include Business Strategy, Leadership, Organizational Development, Knowledge Management, Intellectual Property and IT Law, Digital Marketing and Information Technology.
Dr. Burns has earned 4 advanced degrees over the course of his career. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute), an MBA and PhD in Business Administration from Kent State University, and a Juris Doctor from the School of Law at DePaul University. He also completed an Executive Development program at a $2.2B organization which has helped refine his leadership skills and style.
Al enjoys spending his time with his wife Justina and his children, Kayleigh, Maxwell and Vivienne. He also enjoys playing golf and tennis. He currently serves as a Board member for the Rainshine Foundation, a non-profit organization that builds schools for children in the Congo. He also served as a Board member for the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago.
